Mr Modi was on a two-day visit to the Himalayan nation in an effort to renew bilateral ties which soured during the previous regime of KP Sharma Oli in 2015.

Meeting Oli twice in less than two months, Modi assured him that all genuine and necessary grievances of Nepal will be addressed in a time-bound manner. He said India would invest Rs 6,000 crores in the project. He then also visited the Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu and tweeted: "Jai Pashupatinath!"

The central banks of India and Nepal are discussing the "technical issues" related to return of demontised Indian currency notes, Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale today said, hoping the apex banks of the two neighbouring countries would be able to resolve it.

There were also perceptions that Oli was leaning towards China than India. "This visit reflects the high priority India attaches to friendly relations with Nepal". He said, "Today we are connected by cricket".

The Investment Board Nepal (IBN) on Thursday granted an electricity generation licence to SJVN Arun III Power Development Company to generate power from the Arun III Hydropower Project located in eastern Nepal. Yesterday, the PM performed a special 16-step Shodasopachara Pooja, becoming the first Indian premier to hold such a prayer at the 20th century Janaki Temple in Janakpur, Nepal.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, welcoming the inaugural bus service between Janakpur in Nepal to Ayodhya here on Saturday, claimed that cultural relationship has gone above the political bonds between the two countries. He would leave for New Delhi in the evening to end his two-day visit to Nepal. "It shows the importance India attaches to the historical ties".

People from the temple town were excited about the event and were seen jostling with each other outside the "Ram Katha" Park to receive and mingle with the guests who arrived.

He said the two sides can work on 5Ts - Tradition, Trade, Tourism, Technology and Transport.
