MELANIA UPDATE: President Trump Says First Lady 'Doing Really Well'

First lady Melania Trump checked into Walter Reed on Monday morning for an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition, the first lady's office said Monday afternoon.

Two urologists who have no personal knowledge of Ms Trump's condition said that the most likely explanation for the embolisation procedure is a kind of non-cancerous kidney tumour called an angiomyolipoma.

United States First Lady Melania Trump will be discharged from the hospital in two to three days post a successful kidney operation on Monday (local time). "The first lady looks forward to a full recovery".

The president tweeted shortly before arriving at Walter Reed outside Washington, saying it was a "successful procedure", describing his wife as being "in good spirits" and offering his thanks "to all of the well-wishers!" It is common to stay overnight after the procedure to treat the pain.

In embolization, doctors insert a catheter as part of a procedure to purposely block a blood vessel and cut off the blood supply to the affected area.

Such tumors are usually found by accident, when doctors are taking images for another reason, he said.

"Our great First Lady is doing really well". Mrs. Trump also represented the administration at the April funeral of former first lady Barbara Bush. Walter Reed medical center, they did a fantastic job, so thank you. Trump also joked that his 48-year-old wife should be the one visiting him in the hospital and not the other way around, a senator said.

Mrs. Trump unveiled her official policy platform "Be Best" last week. "As her office has stated, the First Lady remains in good spirits".
