A CNN image released on May 26, 2018, shows where Subtropical Storm Alberto is likely to make landfall on Monday between New Orleans and Destin, Florida, before moving into MS and Alabama by Tuesday. Although the center of the system will stay away from us, it will funnel in deep tropical moisture along the eastern seaboard.

Gusty showers were to begin lashing parts of Florida on Sunday, and authorities were warning of the possibility of flash flooding.

The NHC issued a tropical storm watch along the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, from Tulum north to Cabo Catoche in Mexico, in the western Cuban province of Pinar del Rio, from Indian Pass, Fla., west to Grand Isle, La., and Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Maurepas and metropolitan New Orleans in Louisiana.

This means widespread rain and isolated storms will be likely in our area Monday through Wednesday. "There's not going to be a lot of grilling or boating going on - it's going to be a messy day". Its top sustained winds were 40 miles per hour (65 kph). With the shift, the Wiregrass can expect some strong winds to accompany the already forecasted heavy rains beginning early Monday. The Hurricane Center said the storm surge hereabouts could be as high as 4 feet, and that rainfall totals for the area would be in the 4- to 8-inch rain, although some areas could receive as much as 12 inches.

With all the rain around, Monday's high temperature will only get to about 76 degrees.

As of 5pm Sunday evening. subtropical Storm Alberto is now around 165 miles west of Tampa, Florida or around 120 miles south of the Florida panhandle.

According to Gardner, the rain will come in bands Monday, picking up in intensity with some heavy downpours before slowing down.

If you're traveling on Sunday or Memorial Day, the worst weather will be in areas west and northwest of Central Florida, including much of the Panhandle and the west coast of the state.

"Overflow of water from ditches and streams could lead to flash flooding as well, where the danger increases greatly, due to the power of moving water", a NWS brief released Sunday morning states. Risky surf and rip current conditions were also likely to occur.

Florida, Alabama and MS declared states of emergency on Saturday as the storm threatened up to 300 mm of rain over the Memorial Day weekend, as well as tidal surges and damaging winds, according to Patrick Burke of the weather service's Weather Prediction Center in College Park, Maryland.

Little change in strength is forecast before Alberto reaches the northern Gulf Coast.

"These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions", the National Hurricane Centre in Miami said in a statement.
