The Israeli consulate in NY was also singularly unmoved by the Iranian leader's latest bloodcurdling threats.

Iran informed the United Nations nuclear watchdog on Tuesday that it will increase its nuclear enrichment capacity within the limits set by the 2015 agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

Obama, Merkel, Macron, Netanyahu and other world leaders speak out after U.S. President President Donald Trump's decision to pull out of the Iran deal.

Signed in 2015, the pact was created to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear bomb in return for the removal of worldwide sanctions that had impaired its economy.

The vote came after Iran and the P5+1 group of countries signed a nuclear agreement in 2015.

It highlights the whole issue of Iran's formerly ambitious enrichment programme and again raises the question as to exactly what this enrichment programme was ultimately for.

Prior to his travels, Netanyahu said the focus of his European tour was "applying global pressure against Iran". Europeans and Israel were, she said, "united by the goal that Iran must never get a nuclear weapon".

Israel has proposed that "a military coalition" be formed against Iran in case Tehran pursues "military-grade" uranium enrichment, suggesting that the military force would comprise of the Israeli regime, the U.S., the Western states and their Arab allies.

In his Monday meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Netanyahu warned that Iran was 'seeking nuclear weapons to carry out its genocidal designs'.

Major General Ali Jafari, commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, said a year ago that it had missiles with a 2,000-km (1,240-mile) range that could hit arch-enemy Israel and "most American interests and forces" in the Middle East.

Iran's Supreme Leader has ordered the increase of his uranium enrichment capacity to improve the country's nuclear capability "in case it's needed".

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also commented on the matter, pledging not to let Iran obtain nuclear weapons.

Iran's Shahab 3 missiles can reportedly travel 2,000 kilometers and potentially reach southern Europe, with Iran saying the range may be increased if its security is jeopardized. In exchange, the country received relief from crippling sanctions, most of which were lifted in January 2016.

But the remaining backers of the accord have limited power to protect Iran's economic interests in the face of U.S. sanctions, with Trump showing little inclination to spare European Union companies. The people of Iran and the government of Iran will never tolerate both suffering from sanctions and nuclear restrictions. "However, for the time being, we move within the framework of the JCPOA", Salehi said.
