Manchester United have finally completed the signing of Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk and shared the news on the website and on social media.

But the deal is now concrete after he completed his medical at Carrington training ground on Monday.

United are also severely undermanned of elite defenders, having had to slot in makeshift midfielders of the likes of Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia at their full-back positions over the last several seasons.

Fred will hope to make the same impact on the Premier League as Brazilian global team-mates Willian and Fernandinho, who also arrived in England via spells with Shakhtar.

Once personal terms are finalised, he will compete for a place in United's midfield next season with Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera and Scott McTominay.

A 2013 arrival from Brazil's Internacional, Fred helped Ukrainian giants Shakhtar to three league titles, while amassing 155 appearances and 15 goals.

In December 2015, he was given a one-year ban after testing positive for a banned diuretic, which was backdated to June that year when the test was carried out.

Milinkovic-Savic is reportedly Mourinho's no. 1 target as a more advanced option and he was seen interacting with an Instagram post confirming Fred's move earlier on.

Dalot, who can play at either left-back or right-back, has been on United's radar for some time and Jose Mourinho is clearly an admirer of his compatriot.
