Man Utd announce transfer deal to sign Brazil midfielder Fred

Over the past two summers, manager Jose Mourinho has opted to sign players with a very specific profile - over 6 feet tall and physically imposing - while Fred on the other is neither.

Chelsea's Willian, who is on worldwide duty with Fred ahead of the World Cup and is another to have worked under Mourinho, added of his Brazil team-mate: "He has a lot of quality, he can improve a lot".

The 25-year old has also featured in the UEFA Champions League being a vital player for his manager Paulo Fonseca, as Shakhtar Donetsk reached the rounds of 16 from a pretty hard group featuring Manchester City, Napoli and Feyenoord.

The five-time world champions are training in London at Tottenham's Enfield facility, and played a friendly against Croatia at Anfield on Sunday.

Willian has revealed that Fred has spoken of his excitement at signing for Manchester United after he was confirmed as the club's first recruit on Tuesday.

Do you think Fred will be valuable for United?

Rivaldo, who won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002, believes that his compatriot is the right fit for United.

Although Pogba and Mourinho are rumoured to have fallen out, it would be a surprise if United's No 6 were sold this summer. In 2015, he tested positive for the banned substance hydrochlorothiazide while representing Brazil in the Copa America.

Fred started his youth career at Atletico Mineiro in Brazil, before leaving in 2009 to play for Porto Alegre. If used in the same role at Old Trafford, he will line up alongside Nemanja Matic, allowing Paul Pogba to have a more advanced role. The player has admitted that his former coach, Paulo Fonseca, gave him the liberty to roam and in turn become "conductor" for his previous team.
