President Donald Trump's daughter and son in law made at least 82 million dollars in outside income while serving as senior White House advisers previous year thanks to investment deals from companies they had previously led, news reports said on Tuesday.

According to the Washington Post and Politico, Trump earned $3.9 million from her share in the Trump International Hotel, $5 million from her clothing brand, $2 million in income and severance from the Trump Organization and $289,000 from Penguin Random House as an advance for her new book Women Who Work.

The president's son-in-law and daughter together reported personal assets of between $240 million and $780 million by the end of 2017.

Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner may be working as unpaid White House advisers, but the couple isn't doing too badly with their side gigs, bringing in at least $US81 million ($106 million) of outside income. The Associated Press reports that the current disclosures reflect a possible rise in Kushner's assets, from at least $140 million in April 2017 to $181 million this spring.

Altogether, Ivanka Trump made at least $12 million in 2017.

Kushner drew at least $70 million from dozens of companies linked to his family's real estate company, Kushner Cos., including $5 million in income from an apartment complex in Plainsboro, NJ.

The Post estimated Kushner's assets at United States dollars 179 million to USD 735 million a year ago, compared to between USD 55.3 million and USD 75.6 million for Trump, noting that the Office of Government Ethics uses broad ranges for assets and liabilities.

The figure was outed in financial disclosure forms released Monday.

Mr Kushner's 2017 assets were worth between $179m and $735m, while Ms Trump's were worth between about $55.3m and $75.6m, according to a Washington Post analysis.

The disclosure lists are challenging to follow.

The form shows Ivanka Trump also collected almost US$290,000 in advance payments for a 2017 book she wrote titled Women Who Work.

Kushner's income, for instance, included more than US$6 million from Quail Ridge, a Plainsboro, New Jersey, apartment complex the Kushner company, now run by his relatives, acquired a year ago. Trump has come under scrutiny from ethics watchdogs who have accused the president of using his office to promote his properties.

In addition to earning tens of millions a year ago, the Trump-Kushner power couple have taken on significant debt, apparently mostly due to real estate purchases.

Peter Mirijanian, a spokesman for the couple's ethics lawyer Abbe Lowell, said Trump and Kushner are abiding by government ethics rules.
