Molinari left with his first PGA Tour victory, unleashing a shot-making clinic on the field en route to a final-round, course-record-tying 62 on Sunday to win the Quicken Loans National at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farms in Potomac, Md., in the northwest suburbs of the nation's capital.

Molinari holed a 50-foot eagle putt to start the back nine, then never stopped until turning the final round into a runaway.

Molinari matched the 18-hole course record with the lowest final round by a US PGA victor this season, his career low on the American tour by two shots.

American Ryan Armour was second on 267, one stroke ahead of South Korea's Kang Sung with Woods next on 269, one ahead of Americans Bronson Burgoon and Beau Hossler.

Woods lost all momentum on the back nine by missing two birdie chances inside 10 feet, taking a bogey on a short par 4 and then driving just through the green on the reachable 14th to 18 feet, chipping strong to 8 feet and missing another birdie chance.

Following a 275-yard drive at the par-4 fourth leaving 150 yards to the flagstick, Woods stuck his approach within seven feet and putted into the center of the cup, eliciting cheers that could be heard several holes away.

Beginning the final round tied for the lead, Molinari was immediately handed the outright advantage when Ancer failed to get up-and-down from a greenside bunker to save par at the first.

Woods is playing his 11th tournament of the year and has four top-12 finishes, including a runner-up at the Valspar Championship in March. Chris Wood also was at 8 under until two bogeys over his last four holes for a 73.

Molinari's best finish on the PGA Tour prior to this week was a tie for second at the PGA Championship in 2017 at Quail Hollow in Charlotte.

It will take a lot for Woods to catch that elusive win that he's been chasing since his return, but the fact that he's remotely in the mix will have everyone paying very close attention to the action all day.

While he started off rough, Woods turned it around for his first birdie of the day on the fourth hole.

"I haven t done that, as I said, for the better part of two months, so that was nice, to make over 100 feet of putts twice this week. The course is getting a little bit more hard".

"I was hitting the ball well", said the 27-year-old.

"I'm glad I gave myself a chance", Woods said. "It's a good feeling for me".

Woods came to live with a pair of birdies late on the front nine, and he was in range to get even closer when he hit a lob wedge to 6 feet on No. 10. "And one day I want to lift that trophy".

"It was nice to make a couple of birdies coming in, granted missed a little kick-in on 14", he said after another solid display since undergoing spinal fusion surgery past year.
