Landmark LeBron sign to vanish from downtown Cleveland

LeBron James

LeBron James

That's according to Mark Heisler of the Los Angeles Daily News, who claims the Lakers will NOT complete a deal for another superstar to join LeBron James this summer.

James is considered a rival of retired Chicago Bulls star Michael Jordan for the title of greatest player in National Basketball Association history. But perhaps James took note of how the Warriors built one of the most dominant teams ever and realized his best chance at sustained championship contention down the line is to let the Lakers build more organically.

James and the Cavaliers had been beaten in 3 out of 4 NBA Finals against the Warriors since 2015.

In such a scenario, Howard reportedly wants to join LeBron James by returning to one of his old stomping yards in the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype. He spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Cavs before taking his talents to South Beach to play with the Miami Heat in 2010.

The Los Angeles Lakers have been busy since LeBron James chose to take his talents to Tinseltown, reportedly agreeing to deals with Rajon Rondo, Lance Stephenson and JaVale McGee.

While the decision was bound to create major buzz around the league, it was never going to shift the balance of power at the top of the National Basketball Association.

James is the co-founder of Los Angeles-based production company SpringHill Entertainment, which has developed more than a dozen TV series and films including Starz drama "Survivor's Remorse" and NBC game show "The Wall". Conversely, being able to field the two next season would nearly immediately turn the Lakers from a 35-win team into a force to be reckoned with.

Before signing with the Lakers, James was also linked to the Philadelphia 76ers and the Houston Rockets.

That said, Leonard isn't the Lakers' only possible target.

"Only a handful of athletes in the world can have an effect on ticket demand like LeBron James can", StubHub GM Scott Jablonski told Reuters.

But with James out of town, it looks like Love will be the topic of serious trade talk in the coming days.
