CBS to Appoint Outside Law Firm to Handle Probe Into Moonves Allegations

Embattled CBS boss Les Moonves was spotted out on Sunday night at Nobu Malibu with his wife, Julie Chen, and a group of friends. Both Moonves and CBS vice-chairwoman Shari Redstone were in attendance.

Dinah Kirgo shared a similar story in which Moonves feigned interest in a business meeting only to pursue a dinner with her alone.

Corporate governance experts said there could be several reasons why CBS's board may not want to fire Moonves, including its fiduciary duty to shareholders to minimize the company's legal liabilities. CBS said that Moonves has no recollection of the interactions with Jones.

The company said following a board meeting on Monday afternoon that it is in the process of selecting outside counsel to conduct an independent investigation.

The company is also scheduled to report quarterly earnings on Thursday and hold its annual shareholder meeting on Friday in Pasadena, California on August 10. The article also reported that 30 current and former CBS employees flagged inappropriate behavior at the company, including CBS News and its flagship program "60 Minutes". CBS announced on Friday the network would launch a probe into the matter and vowed to swiftly "review the findings and take appropriate action".

CBS shares have lost more than 10 percent of their value since Friday, when the sexual harassment claims against Moonves emerged.

The article was in a "quality publication", The New Yorker, in which six women accused Moonves of "forcible" acts like touching and "violent kissing". "So I don't know what's going to happen, but I do believe in accountability - and not just for politicians you disagree with". "Those were mistakes, and I regret them immensely", he said.

"Now, I'll have some more to say on this over at the desk, later, assuming we make it past the commercial break", he said.

Moonves said in a statement that he has always abided by the principle that "no means no" and he denies ever misusing his position to harm anyone's career.

Shares of CBS tumbled Friday and fell an additional 4.7 percent to $51.49 as of 9:46 a.m.in NY.

If Moonves is suspended or departs altogether, CBS will face a serious power vacuum at a time of rapid change roiling the industry.

The first anonymous source, a "prominent actress who played a police officer on a long-running CBS program", alleged that after being wrongfully fired in the mid-'90s, she sat for a lunch meeting in Moonves's private office dining room.
