Moto Z3 First Look: Looking Ahead to 5G

Verizon just let slip when its 5G mobile service will launch

The star of the show is Motorola's new 5G Moto Mod, which will give the phone insane data speeds.

Like the Moto Z Force, the Z3 is a Verizon exclusive, so the 5G Mod will only work with Big Red's network.

Motorola has aimed to ease the burden of moving over to 5G networks by introducing a Moto Mod that will bring 5G connectivity to the Moto Z3. And now, as expected, Motorola unveiled the Moto Z3 at its event that it had scheduled at its headquarters in Chicago.

Motorola past year launched the Moto Z2 Force in July. The phone will cost $480 or $20 per month if you opt for 24 monthly payments.

As far as the phone goes, it is going on sale in the U.S. on August 16 with a price tag of $480, roughly Rs 33,000.

While the Moto Z3 will be on sale starting August 16th in the USA, the 5G Moto Mod is mentioned to be available only from early 2019. Motorola recently announced the Moto Z3 as one of the first 5G-capable smartphones.

Elsewhere, the version of the Z3 we know about has 64GB of storage (though we expect a 128GB option too), 4GB of RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset - not the new 845.

For optics, the smartphone also comes with a dual camera module comprising of a 12MP primary sensor with f/2.0 aperture and secondary monochrome camera with dual LED flash. On the front, it features an 8-megapixel sensor that also supports the Face Unlock feature. Connectivity options in the smartphone include 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 5.0, Global Positioning System and USB Type-C port.

After the Android 8.1 Oreo soak test for the Moto G5 Plus, Motorola has also started pushing out the soak test for the Moto G5. The handset is also equipped with a 3000 mAh battery which offers a quick charge via the 15W TurboPower charger.

While there might not be something that special about Moto Z3 at first glance, the smartphone will become truly unique in 2019 when Motorola will make the brand-new 5G Moto Mod available for purchase. The device is compatible with all previous MotoMods Motorola has up its sleeves as well as the new 5G Moto mods which the device comes with.

The Moto Z3 has One Button Nav with an iPhone X-like experience.

The new Motorola smartphone features a tall 6-inch Super AMOLED display with 1080x2160p resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio.

On the other hand, the Moto Mod includes 5G chips (rom Qualcomm) and an antenna inside, along with its own 2000mAh battery to help offset any battery drain on the phone itself.

Of course, these similarities are necessary to ensure cross-compatibility with the Moto Mods. The 5G Mod will be launched in early 2019 and the pricing of the same has not been revealed by the brand at the moment.
