John Bolton Says North Korea Hasn't Done Much To Rid Itself Of Nuclear Weapons

"The U.S. should, even at this belated time, respond to our honest efforts in a corresponding manner", the ministry said.

North Korea on Thursday threatened to stall the denuclearization of its missile program if the US continues to abide by an "outdated acting script" amid Washington's calls to enforce sanctions against the regime.

Pyongyang's Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho is now on a visit to Iran where President Hassan Rouhani warned the U.S. could not be trusted after Tehran's experience of having the Trump administration tear up an Obama-era deal to ease sanctions.

"This is all in North Korea's court", Haley told reporters traveling with her during a visit to Colombia, where she attended the inauguration of new Colombian President Ivan Duque and met migrants who had fled Venezuela.

"The U.S. administration performance in these years has led the country to be considered untrustworthy and unreliable around the world which does not meet any of its obligations", Rouhani was quoted by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) as telling Ri on Wednesday.

Asked about the possibility of additional meetings, Bolton said Trump in a recent letter to Kim proposed sending Pompeo back to North Korea, and that Trump was ready to meet with Kim any time.

At Trump and Kim's historic summit, the two signed a document stating that Pyongyang would work toward "complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula".

North Korea's foreign ministry said on Thursday it had stopped missile and nuclear tests and dismantled "the nuclear test ground", yet the United States still insisted on "denuclearisation first".

South Korea's presidential spokesman said last month that Seoul wants a declaration of the end of the 1950-53 war sooner than later.

A statement from the North Korean government, broadcast via the Korea Central News Agency, accused United States figures of spouting "falsehoods" about the North Korean nuclear issue.

"However, the USA responded to our expectation by inciting worldwide sanctions and pressure against the DPRK", it said in a statement carried by KCNA news agency.

The United States was "attempting to invent a pretext for increased sanctions against the DPRK".

"As long as the US denies even the basic decorum for its dialogue partner. one cannot expect any progress in the implementation of the DPRK-US joint statement including the denuclearization", said Pyongyang's foreign ministry, using the initials of the country's official name, warning regional security could suffer.

"We hoped that these goodwill measures would contribute to breaking down the high barrier of mistrust existing between the DPRK and the USA and to establishing mutual trust".

The newspaper added that it is "abnormal" to see distrust and animosity going on between the North and the United States even now, saying that it is time to take action toward declaring an end to the war.
