Alexis Sanchez has challenged his Manchester United team-mates to focus on producing solid attacking displays this season.

Boateng of Bayern Munich is said to be interested in a move to Old Trafford, but that would only be a season-long loan from the Bundesliga club.

Pogba has become one of the most consistent players at Manchester United over the last season, and has contributed 15 goals for the club in his 88 games there.

Mourinho, who will be without the likes of Nemanja Matic, Antonio Valencia, Ander Herrera and Marcos Rojo on Friday, once again bemoaned the lack of preparation time for the start of the season, with many of his players having just returned to training after taking time off following the World Cup.

Jose Mourinho's relationship with his players has also come under scrutiny, but any such tension was forgotten as Pogba and Shaw - a duo that have endured ups and downs with the United boss - secured a 2-1 win against Leicester.

They have bought in just Fred, Diego Dalot and third-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant so far this summer, and they look likely to miss out on the centre back that Jose Mourinho has been hoping to sign. "City are a really good side, great manager, some great players, a way of playing that they all know about and Manchester United seem to be not too sure what's going on". Eric Bailly did superbly to get back to deny Iheanacho and substitute Vardy bundled Shaw off the ball to send in a cross that Gray would have flicked home had De Gea reacted well.

Midfielder Fred arrived for big money but he was the only major new signing as Mourinho's appeals for fresh defensive blood went unheeded.

Asked at a news conference on Thursday whether he had the squad to go head-to-head with Manchester City for the title, Mourinho refused to answer one way or the other. "I think maybe another signing or two".

Paul Pogba, Ashley Young, Fellaini and Jesse Lingard may yet be involved against Leicester tonight.

"In football you need time to work and players on the pitch to work and we didn't have until now".

"If they feel they can help us, 20 minutes, 10 minutes, half an hour".
