Police early on Monday morning confirmed the children were twin two-year-old girls and a three-and-a-half-year-old girl.

"The man now assisting police remains in custody, no charges have been laid at this time", police said in a statement.

Homicide detectives and specialist forensic police will continue to comb the Coode Street home for evidence.

Streets in the area are still locked down but West Australia Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul Steel said there are no safety concerns for the public and no suspects are at large.

Violent crime with multiple victims is rare in Australia but this was the second major incident in Western Australia this year.

"This is a tragic event and it will no doubt have an impact on not only the family and friends of the deceased, but on the whole of the community, those first responders who are faced with attending a scene with deceased people."

"We're all in complete shock".

It was unclear how the victims died or any details about their connection with the man in custody.

"They were a flawless family. this is a handsome neighbourhood, it's quiet", Alfie said.

The bodies of five people, including a woman and children, have been discovered at a suburban home in the Australian city of Perth.

Police have blocked off the road near the home on Coode Street in Bedford.

It's yet to be determined how long the bodies had been there, he said.

"While the scene is yet to be forensically examined it is believed that up to five deceased are located at that scene", Mr Steel said, adding that there was at least one woman among the dead.

"She was pretty unlucky in love before she met him", a friend told WA Today.

Other neighbours spoke of a community that was close, calm and peaceful.

A police officer stands outside a property where five people were found dead in a suburb of Perth, Australia, September 9, 2018.

It comes after the shooting deaths of three adults and four children in Osmington in regional WA in May, and the deaths of a mother and her 15-year-old daughter and eight-year-old son at Ellenbrook, in Perth's northeast, in July. "No charges have been laid at this time".
