The unconventional medley ignited a firestorm on Twitter over the weekend, but Nixon has bigger fish to fry.

Though a win by Cuomo, now vying for a third term leading the Empire State after being first elected in 2010, was widely expected, Nixon's combination of celebrity and progressive values forced the governor to wage a more earnest campaign that may have been expected by an incumbent in such a solidly Democratic state. Cuomo was widely expected to win, with a 41-point lead in the latest poll, and the AP called the race about a half hour after the polls closed.

Until quite recently, Cynthia Nixon was best known as the spiky red-headed companion of Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City.

New York's primary election was underway on Thursday when a late-breaking endorsement from Cardi B came into play.

"There are certainly ways we've been able to move the governor to the left, on criminal justice issues, on environmental issues, on political issues". "I would say it's unlikely, but upsets happen in sports and politics", Dawidziak said. During their only debate, Nixon didn't pull punches in calling Cuomo a "liar" and "corrupt". "A lot of people would be surprised if she did pull it off". "It's time to make it legal for everybody else". Bernie Sanders and the editorial board of the New York Times, which said she is well prepared to serve as a firewall against the Trump administration and keep tabs on "a state government in which ethics can seem a mere inconvenience".

Nixon leapt on what she denounced as a smear campaign, pointing out that she was bringing up two of her children Jewish and attended synagogue. She also tried to capitalize on fatigue with Cuomo's leadership and corruption in Albany, the state capital. "And because I believed that he was a Democrat, the way he said he was". Guess Tip isn't binge-watching "Sex and the City". But she's invited to my next bbq/family gathering and if she's running for anything...

And in July, Mr. Cuomo was dragged into ugly headlines after the architect of his six-year-old plan to revitalize upstate NY - dubbed "Buffalo Billion" - was convicted in a bid-rigging scheme involving state contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Nixon has pledged to pass congestion pricing and a tax on the wealthy to pay for much-needed repairs to an aging infrastructure.

Nixon labeled Cuomo a "corrupt corporate Democrat" and went after him over New York's crumbling mass transit system, which the governor controls.
