Tony Finau will take a three-shot lead into the final round of the WGC-HSBC Champions after a birdie-birdie-birdie finish combined with a late collapse from Justin Rose kept the American in front at the Sheshan International on Saturday.

Schauffele began the week in Shanghai by celebrating his 25th birthday.

Finau and Fleetwood have done everything but win over the past year on the PGA TOUR; a win at a World Golf Championships event this week would solidify their position among golf's current elite.

On the playoff hole, Finau hit his drive into a tough lie in a bunker and couldn't hit the green in two like Schauffele, who two-putted for a birdie and the win.

Finau was at 13-under 203 and led by three over Justin Rose, Masters champion Patrick Reed and Xander Schauffele.

Shubhankar started with a bogey on 19th and then had a double on 17th and a birdie on 18th to turn in 2-over. When I signed my card, I went, "Oh wow, I went birdie-birdie to get into this play-off".

"I've got to go out tomorrow, shoot maybe something in the mid 60s and see if I can chase Tony down", Rose said.

"One thing I've learned in this game is that you take the good with the bad and keep moving forward", Finau said.

Molinari leads the Race to Dubai by 1.2 million points from Fleetwood but skips this week's $7 million Turkish Airlines Open at Regnum Carya Golf & Spa Resort, where Ireland's Shane Lowry, Paul Dunne and Pádraig Harrington join defending champion Rose.

Hsu had a two-round total of 9-under 135 on the Ta Shee Golf and Country Club, one ahead of first-round leader Jodi Ewart Shadoff, who shot 71 Friday.

Finau recorded eight birdies, one bogey and an unfortunate double bogey on the 11th, where his approach bounced off a sprinkler head and careered over the green.

"I was definitely in sort of an attack mode, and I was hitting good shots all day, making good putts".

He followed that with bogey on the par-5 18th with a second shot into water.

But he capitalised on the Englishman's own mistakes down the stretch to stay on track for just his second PGA Tour win. He birdied the first playoff hole - No. 18 - to seal the win.

American players have now won all four of this year's WGC events. Ryann O'Toole was third at 10 under after a 67. At the Open Championship at Carnoustie, Scotland, Schauffele and Finau played together for two rounds and both finished in the top 10, with Schauffele edging Finau by two shots, finishing in a tie for second while Finau tied for ninth.
