Oprah Winfrey delivers an impassioned speech for Democratic candidate Stacey Abrams who is running in a tight race for Governor in Georgia.

The entertainment icon, who rarely makes political endorsements, drew cheers when she said she's a registered independent who was not in Georgia at anyone's request.

"Take a look at her past, take a look at her history, take a look at what she wants to do and what she has in mind for the state".

"I am here today because Stacey Abrams cares about the things that matter", she said to a mostly female audience north of downtown Atlanta.

"I am here today because of the men and because of the women who were lynched, who were humiliated, who were discriminated against, who were suppressed, who were repressed and oppressed... and I refuse to let their sacrifices be in vain."

The president noted that he would travel to Georgia in the remaining days left before the election to support Republican candidate Brian Kemp.

Vice President Mike Pence fired back Thursday at Oprah Winfrey and other "Hollywood liberals" who were campaigning for Stacey Abrams, the Democratic candidate for the gubernatorial race in Georgia. For decades, the media mogul has defied conventions and amassed a rare kind of fandom that defies racial, cultural and class boundaries.

"I'm an African-American woman who is charting a very different path to doing this", Abrams told CNN last month. "But I also think they're excited by the possibility it could work". "And to vote for myself", Winfrey said to cheers. "Are you voting for her?"

She said Abrams keeps "standing strong for the values that matter to me and the values that matter to Georgians all over this state", and added that "if you're woke just a little bit, you know everyone is not treated equally".

"I absolutely am", the wide-eyed, smiling woman responds.

"No one asked me to come here", Winfrey said at her first rally of the day, according to NBC News.

"You are voting for her".
