The Ventura County Fire Department reports structures, outbuildings, and vehicles have been damaged and destroyed.

Evacuation center locations, road closure and school closure information for the fires can be found on the Ventura County emergency page here and through the county hotline at 805.465.6650.

In less than 24 hours, the Camp Fire had torched over 31 square miles, or 20,000 acres, turning escape routes around the town of Paradise into tunnels of fire as the entire community of 27,000 residents were ordered to evacuate. Evacuation orders in the Hidden Hills area of Los Angeles County were also downgraded to voluntary. By 9 a.m. Friday, CalFire said it had burned 6,000 acres.

The 20,000 acre (8,100 hectare) Camp Fire, which started on Thursday near Camp Creek, is being driven west by 35 miles per hour (56 kmh) winds, fire officials said. Drought-stricken fuels, Santa Ana wind conditions, low relative humidity, high temperatures: "It's a recipe for fire", said Ventura County Fire Department Assistant Chief Chad Cook, the incident commander for the Hill Fire.

The Camp Fire headed to the outskirts of Chico early on Friday, forcing thousands to flee after it left the nearby town of Paradise in ruins, California fire officials said.

San Luis Obispo County residents traveling south on Friday into Ventura County and Los Angeles should use caution and be prepared for delays and detours caused by two wildfires that have closed parts of Highway 101 and prompted evacuations.

Earlier in the day, the Hill Fire near Thousand Oaks in Ventura Country needed just 12 minutes to jump Highway 101, one of the area's primary roadways.

Pepperdine on Friday closed its Malibu and Calabasas campuses because of the approaching blaze.

"While a lot of my yard and neighbors' yards burned, the firefighters saved our homes", Janic tweeted just after 2 a.m. (5 a.m. ET) Friday.

This fire quickly spread to cover 10,000 acres, Ventura County Fire Department officials said.

Two wildfires raging west of Los Angeles have force thousands of people to leave their homes.

Residents took to social media to share their views of the flames almost consuming the hillside in Newbury Park, which borders Thousands Oaks to the west. The fire got started north of the 101 freeway in Simi Valley where it burned a number of homes last night. Fire officials said it could take days to figure out how many people died.

The fire had jumped Highway 101 in several places, including Calabasas and Agoura Hills, as it barrelled south towards coastal Malibu.

Not too far away, firefighters were also battling the Hill Fire, which broke out along Hill Canyon in Santa Rosa Valley. By Thursday evening, it had scorched up to 7,000 acres and sent residents of more than 1,200 homes fleeing, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Winds were expected to weaken Friday afternoon into Saturday.
