Did You Know This Mario Character Was Named After Motörhead’s Lemmy?

Now you do.

Every game has its perks and rumours, and one of the better rumours is each koopaling in Super Mario Bros. 3 was named after a celebrity. Apparently, one of the seven (Lemmy) is named after Lemmy Kilmister, founder of the rock band Motörhead, who has unfortunately passed on earlier this week. But have you ever wondered why these celebrities names have inspired the name of the koopalings?

Nintendo’s ex-product analyst Dayvv Brooks originally crafted the idea; he instantly relate the koopalings to musicians/celebs once he saw them. For starters, the hairstyle on one of them reminded him of Ludwig von Beethoven for some strange reason, therefore, Ludwig von Koopa was born. And then there was Wendy O. Koopa (Wendy O. Williams), Roy Koopa for resembling Roy Orbison as well as one of them that just looks like a Larry. Like, no special reason of some sort, because he just looked like a Larry. And then we have Lemmy, whose name sounded just perfect, according to Brooks.

And it’s good to mention that Lemmy would be showing up in another video game too. He actually helped voiced a character in Double Fine’s Brutal Legend.
