Japan Is Ahead Of The Hologram Game: Can Touch This?

By  |

MC Hammer says u can’t touch this, but Japanese researchers says you can. It’s the holograms that they’ve created and it’s called Haptoclone, which lets people send holographic images that a receiver can interact with if they have the right device. How cool is that?

So the Haptoclone works with the aid of “telehaptics”, which enables you to send an image of your face, for instance, and let the receiver touch as if it’s real. And all thanks to the Kinect sensor in capturing motion and four ultrasound arrays in emitting radiation pressure, which ultimately results in the illusion of touching a hologram. It’s starting to get even more sciency here, so it’s best if you have the video below watched to get a better understanding of it all.

Perhaps this is the ideal way to communicate in a long-distance relationship. The idea of still being able to hold their hands while being god-knows-how-many miles away. We’re certain that it’s definitely going to topple over the likes of Skype and FaceTime if this ever were to go into mass production!
